Stephen Webster MBE is British jewellery’s rock’n’roll rebel — a Gravesend-born, Hatton Garden-trained goldsmith whose fearless designs have adorned everyone from Madonna to Machine Gun Kelly. Born in Kent in 1959, Webster found his calling at sixteen at Medway College of Design, trained under Tony Shepherd, and earned the De Beers honour in 1982 before stints in Canada and California, where his bold use of colourful gems won over a freethinking West Coast clientele. He returned to London in 1989 to found Stephen Webster Ltd.
His breakthrough was Crystal Haze — the doublet technique he pioneered in 1995, bonding heavily faceted clear quartz over opaque gemstones to create a hypnotic, magnified glow. When Madonna wore a Crystal Haze ring in 2000, Webster became a global name, and his gothic-glamorous collections (Thorn, Fly By Night, Jewels Verne, the Seven Deadly Sins) have kept the brand at fine jewellery’s daring edge ever since — most recently via the “8th Sin: Gossip” collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly, who had commissioned Webster’s famous Toi et Moi engagement ring for Megan Fox.
A family business spanning two generations, the house is equally serious about substance: Webster became one of the world’s first Fairtrade Gold licensees in 2011, holds Positive Luxury’s Butterfly Mark, received his MBE in 2013 for services to training and skills, and co-founded The Leopards mentoring collective with Theo Fennell. In July 2025 the brand opened a spectacular four-storey flagship in Burlington Arcade, Mayfair — complete with its own subterranean cocktail bar, the No Regrets Lounge.

Crystal Haze Small Cocktail Ring
The signature Webster jewel and one of modern jewellery’s most recognisable designs. Crystal Haze is the doublet technique Stephen developed and refined himself: a heavily faceted natural clear quartz layered and bonded over an opaque precious stone, acting as a magnifying lens so light enters at hundreds of angles and the colour beneath seems to glow from within. This cocktail version pairs mesmerising Black Opalescent Crystal Haze with black diamond pavé — a tribute, in the brand’s words, to nocturnal creatures of the darkest forest depths. The very ring family that Madonna made famous.

12mm Entwined Link Chain — Sterling Silver
From the Thorn family — the newest expression of a Webster classic and the heart of the brand’s fastest-growing category, men’s and unisex jewellery. The Thorn motif is quintessential Webster: darkly romantic, “no pleasure without pain”, a symbol of resilience and protection. The 12mm Entwined chain interweaves large sculptural thorn links in sterling silver for serious statement impact, offered in two lengths to wear solo or layered with slimmer chains from the collection. An accessible route into the house’s rock’n’roll aesthetic without the fine-jewellery price tag.
